Heart diseases can present themselves in many forms and all have different symptoms. They include: rheumatic heart disease, hypertensive heart disease, angina, myocardial infarction (heart attack), congenital heart disease and many more.
Like any other diseases there are conservative ways of managing heart disease mainly based on nutrition and how well you take care of your body. Changing your habits to suitable ones like eating healthier and exercising often may just be what your heart needs. There are a wide variety of food that you can eat as they protect from heart disease better than others. The list is endless so that you can choose what you are comfortable with. However this list below contains the five best ones that have been proven to give better results.
1. Apples
As they say, an apple a day keeps the doctor away. Well it is true. Fruits are important for our body and apples are on top of that list. They contain antioxidants in the form of phytonutrients that mainly break down the low density lipoprotein (the unwanted type of cholesterol for your body). They also help in lowering cholesterol levels by a component known as pectin. Apples also have the advantage of being available for diabetics. They do not cause spikes in blood sugar which is dangerous for diabetics as they are broken down slowly therefore good for consumption.
2. Avocados
There are different types of fat and avocado contains the good type (mono saturated fat) that is easily broken down for energy therefore less accumulation in your body. It also has bonus nutrients like vitamin E, folic acid, Potassium, fiber and B vitamins that are essential for a healthy heart. Eat it carefully however especially if you do not want to gain extra weight as it has higher levels of calories.
3. Salmon
Excessive cholesterol in your body leads to build up of plaques which might lead to strokes and the likes. Salmon contains the most amount of both types of omega-3 as compared to other types of fish. The wild type of salmon is the better option compared to those that have been bred in ponds by farmers.
4. Beans
High blood cholesterol levels is one of the most common causes of heart disease. Beans contain high minerals and fiber in them and these components help in breaking down low density lipoproteins which are the unwanted type of cholesterol. They are high in proteins and low in saturated fat which is a heart healthy kind of diet. You can use both canned beans or make your own and both will give these nutrients amply.
5. Pumpkins
After carving pumpkins during Halloween be sure to make some pumpkin soup. Pumpkins contain beta-carotene which is an antioxidant and can be converted into vitamin that is also good for your heart. It prevents heart disease and has a mechanism of reducing cholesterol levels.
The good thing about all these foods is that they are affordable and available to all so be sure to get some for yourself and live a longer, healthier life with a strong heart.
