Best Foods for Lung Cancer

Lung cancer is one of the most common cancers in the world. It is a leading cause of cancer death in men and women in the United States. Statistics from the American Cancer Society estimated that in 2019 there will be about 228,000 new cases of lung cancer in the U.S. occurred and over 142,000 deaths were due to the disease.
Proper nutrition is essential for fighting lung cancer. Here is a list of foods.
Blueberries are one of the greatest health foods and an excellent lung cancer fighting food. In a laboratory test conducted by USDA researchers, wild blueberries were shown to have the highest Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity (ORAC) rating of more than 20 fruits and berries. ORAC is a measure of the antioxidant capacity of foods. The antioxidant and anti-cancer powers of blueberries can be attributed to a number of remarkable compounds contained in them, including anthocyanins, vitamin C, vitamin E, and ellagic acid.
Turmeric can trigger self-destruction of lung cancer cells. Turmeric, an essential ingredient in curry among other foods, contains the compound curcumin. Turmeric is the spice that gives curry the yellow color. Curcumin has been found to inhibit the invasive ability of lung cancer cells in several studies.
Tomatoes with lycopene which is a very strong antioxidant help prevent lung cancer. Lycopene from processed tomato products, such as tomato paste, tomato juice, and catsup, appears to be more bioavailable than that from raw tomatoes.
Watercress is a great anti-cancer food, and it is believed to be particularly effective at providing protection against lung cancer. Watercress naturally contains phenethyl isothiocyanate (PEITC), a specific mustard oil which is released when watercress is chopped or chewed. PEITC has been shown to be an effective chemopreventive agent for tobacco-induced lung cancer in rodents.
Phloretin, which is found in pears and apples, not only induce programmed cell death in these cancer cells, but also enhance the anticancer effect of cisplatin, a common chemotherapy drug used for people with lung cancer. In addition to its possible effect on cancer, phloretin may reduce fibrosis in the lungs, such as that commonly associated with radiation therapy.
Green tea
Green tea is another food when it comes to lung cancer. Green tea is the richest source of antioxidants. It is believed that the amount of antioxidants in green tea is 500 times more potent than vitamin C sources. Not only has green tea been found to have a preventive role in the development of lung cancer, but may be of benefit to those already living with the disease.
